Michael Morgia and Randen Kohagura combined to scatter five hits in a shutout victory as the Thunder Baseball team rolled 9-0 over South Brazoria (Texas) on Sunday at the 2017 Babe Ruth 14U World Series in Glen Allen, Va.
Morgia went five scoreless innings. Offensively, Thunder Baseball (3-0) pounded out 13 hits, four coming off the bat of Kelena Sauer, who went 4-for-4 with two doubles while driving in three runs. Jaron Yoshikane drove in two and knocked out his first home run of the World Series.
The team continues pool play today at 1 p.m. Hawaii time against host Glen Allen.
Florence loses in quarterfinals at Teahupoo
Haleiwa’s John John Florence lost his heat in the quarterfinal round of the Billabong Pro Tahiti in Teahupoo, Tahiti, on Sunday. Florence’s 13.10 was not enough to advance as he was eliminated by South Africa’s Jordy Smith and his 14.50 score.
Australia’s Julian Wilson beat Brazil’s Gabriel Medina 18.96 to 17.87 in the final.
