Station Casinos has announced a second round of upgrades for Palace Station, a favorite casino of local residents located on Sahara Avenue a mile west of the Strip.

Following the completion of a $115 million renovation and expansion that erased the resort’s railroad theme, an additional $76 million will be devoted to adding luxury movie theaters, a pool complex, restaurant and bar, and to renovate the sports book and poker room. Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Caesars studio

Caesars Entertainment has unveiled a new studio that it’s touting as the “only full-service studio space in Nevada.” The 48,000-square-foot complex next to Bally’s can facilitate full-scale television, movie and eSports production.

Irvine at the Trop

Robert Irvine’s Public House has opened at the Tropicana. Irvine’s pub-style restaurant has been the subject of a big promotional campaign, including a giant image of the chef on the exterior of the casino for more than a year.

Wheel deal

Through the end of August, kids 12 and under ride free on the High Roller observation wheel at the LINQ Promenade when accompanied by a paying adult. The offer is good until 7 p.m. daily.

Add 1 dolphin

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage has a new resident with the birth of a female dolphin last month. The calf, which has not yet been named, is healthy and can be viewed when visiting the habitat.

Question: I was in Las Vegas last week, and what looked like a spontaneous concert snarled the Strip. What was it about?

Answer: The band the Killers played a pop-up concert in front of Caesars Palace, portions of which were shown on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The band was promoting its new album, “Wonderful Wonderful.” Both the band and Kimmel are originally from Las Vegas.
