Ohana Pacific Bank’s earnings rose more than 9 percent in the second quarter on the strength of another double-digit-percentage increase in its loan portfolio.

The Honolulu-based bank, which opened in June 2006, said in its most recent financial report that net income rose to $199,000 from $182,000 in the year-earlier period.

Loans jumped 15.3 percent to $109.8 million from $95.2 million and came on the heels of a 15.6 percent increase in first-quarter loans over the comparable period in 2016.

Deposits rose 9.8 percent to $119.7 million from $109 million while assets increased 9 percent to $136.6 million from $125.4 million.

“With the new addition of a chief lending officer last year, we are more focused on expanding in SBA (Small Business Administration) loans and residential mortgage loans,” Ohana President and CEO James Hong said last week in a statement.

Hawaii State FCU’s loans up, profit down

Hawaii State Federal Credit Union increased its loans for the 15th straight quarter but saw its net income fall 21.6 percent in the period from April to June.

The state’s second-largest credit union and largest credit union lender said in its most recent financial report that loans jumped 12.9 percent to $781.7 million from $692.6 million in the year-earlier period. The credit union’s earnings, however, fell 21.6 percent to 1.9 million from 2.4 million.

During the second quarter, Hawaii State FCU’s membership rose 4.5 percent to 98,020 members from 93,840 in the year-earlier period.

Hawaii State FCU serves state, city and county employees as well as nonprofits and select businesses and their families across the state.

Central Pacific Bank has appointed Stanford Ono to assistant vice president and Kailua branch manager. He has six years of financial industry experience as well as nine years of experience in management, including having served as a customer service supervisor for Hawaii Pacific Health.

The Kahala Hotel & Resort has announced that Eric Oto is the chef de cuisine of Hoku’s. He has more than 10 years of culinary experience, including as sous chef at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina’s Fish House on the restaurant’s executive opening team. Prior to that, Oto served for 10 years as a chef for Orchids at Halekulani hotel.

Hawaii News Now has hired Katie Pickman as director of sales for KGMB and KHNL. She previously served as general sales manager for FOX and CW network affiliates in Hawaii for three years. She also worked for WPRI Media in Providence, R.I., as local sales manager, account executive, and editor/ producer.
