Rakuten, one of the biggest credit card issuers in Japan, with 90 million card holders, has opened Rakuten Card Lounge at T Galleria by DFS in Waikiki, offering concierge services, temporary luggage storage, loans of baby strollers and other amenities for tourists and business travelers from Japan who hold the Rakuten card.
Members waiting to check into their hotels or a flight will be able to relax in the lounge — equipped with massage chairs, a children’s play area and nursing room — at no charge. The local staff will be able to book reservations to spas and restaurants, help with lost or stolen credit cards, and offer other assistance.
The lounge opened its doors Tuesday and marks the first bricks-and-mortar space opened by the Japanese-based internet company that also runs Rakuten Travel, a travel reservation service. Waikiki was selected because of Hawaii’s popularity with travelers from Japan.
