Police arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly struck a 28-year-old man with a metal pipe in Wahiawa.
Just after 3:05 a.m. Thursday, police said, a man approached another man and asked for a cigarette. At some point the encounter escalated into an argument.
Police said the suspect left the area and confronted the victim on Ohai Place with a metal pipe. He then allegedly struck the victim in the head with the pipe, causing minor injuries.
Police said the victim returned home. When his 28-year-old girlfriend learned of the attack, police said, she grabbed her boyfriend’s firearm and went to confront the suspect.
The 24-year-old man allegedly observed the firearm and assaulted her. Police said she then fled.
Police were called, and the 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Police also arrested the woman on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and a firearm offense.
Knife-wielding cash register thief sought
Police are looking for an unknown male suspect who bought a candy bar and allegedly stole cash out of the open cash register Wednesday afternoon at a Honolulu store.
Police said the suspect bought the candy bar, and when the register was open, he grabbed several bills from the drawer.
He then allegedly threatened a 17-year-old boy with a knife and fled on foot. Police would not say whether the boy was the cashier.
A 41-year-old woman filed the complaint.
The suspect was not found.
Man charged in Ala Moana park threats
A 48-year-old man has been charged for allegedly threatening three people with a dangerous instrument at Ala Moana Park.
Richard A. Mariano was charged Thursday with first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $50,000.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said, a male later identified as Mariano approached a 59-year-old man at the park and threatened to harm him with an unspecified dangerous instrument. Mariano then threatened a couple — a 57-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman — while armed with the dangerous instrument.
Mariano and the victims are not known to one another.
Police arrested Mariano at the park shortly after.
He has a criminal record that includes criminal property damage, terroristic threatening, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, theft, criminal trespassing, assault and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
