Honolulu firefighters contained a brush fire Wednesday afternoon in about an hour after returning to an area where homes were threatened a week ago.
The fire blackened roughly 5 acres of dried grass and brush near the Royal Kunia Golf Course above Anoiki Street.
It was located within the area of a previous 400-acre fire that burned a week ago, threatening homes, the Honolulu Fire Department said.
On Wednesday HFD deployed 15 units staffed with 40 personnel, including two HFD helicopters.
The first alarm was at 12:05 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene at 12:16 p.m. The blaze was contained by 1:17 p.m.
No injuries or property damage were reported, the fire department said in a news release.
Fire Capt. David Jenkins said: “The good news is that so much brush burned last week that nearby homes (were) not threatened. … That area was pretty much burned out in terms of brush, so that area is secure.”
Man arrested in alleged abuse case
Early Wednesday morning police arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly choked his 28-year-old wife in Ewa Beach.
The couple had an argument from about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, which resulted in the physical abuse, police said.
Police arrested the husband on suspicion of abuse.
