Four Hawaii State Junior Golf Association members will benefit from $12,500 in scholarships when they head to college in the fall.
Recipients of the C. Pardee and Betsy Erdman college scholarships are Hilo’s Trevor Hirata, who will be a sophomore on the University of Hawaii team, Kailua-Kona’s Matthew Rosato (Pepperdine) and Cole Shintaku (Santa Clara).
Hirata, Rosato and Hilo’s Kalai Pomroy (UNLV) received the Thos Rohr college scholarship. Hirata, Pomroy, Rosato and Shintaku also earned HSJGA college scholarships.
The Erdman scholarship are given to juniors who “exemplify some or all of the qualities and characteristics modeled by the Erdmans,” who are longtime HSJGA supporters.
Rohr’s scholarship is sponsored by Waikoloa Land Company, where Rohr was president. He was also the recipient of the 2007 distinguished service award, given by the Aloha Section PGA. His annual awards are for Hawaii Island residents.
Money for the HSJGA scholarships is raised through the annual Michelle Wie Love Ping Pong fundraiser.
