News of the seven-alarm fire at the 568-unit Marco Polo condominium July 14 hit home at Bloomingdale’s when employees learned that one of their co-workers was left homeless by the fire and that Britt Reller, a Hawaiian Airlines executive who also worked part time in women’s apparel, was among the three people killed.
“There was such an outpouring from the staff asking what we could do for people who were left, who were displaced,” said Bloomingdale’s General Manager Carolyn Edward. “One of the things they felt they could do is take beauty services to them and get their mind off of the fire for an hour or two.”
So Bloomingdale’s beauty and skincare experts will be offering Marco Polo residents some TLC on Friday and Saturday with free hand massages, makeup and skincare sessions and gifts of deluxe samples and makeup bags from 2 to 6 p.m. in the condo lobby.
“We wanted to help the Marco Polo residents as a simple act of kindness for those dealing with the after effects of the fire,” Edward said. “I think businesses are obligated to do what they can.”
