Hawaii island police Friday arrested relatives of a 9-year-old girl who investigators say died last month after being found “severely malnourished” in her Hilo home.
Police arrested 49-year-old Kevin Lehano, 33-year-old Tiffany Stone and 59-year-old Henrietta Stone after a grand jury returned an indictment charging the trio with second-degree murder. Police did not release the name of the girl.
The charges stem from the girl’s June 28 death, following reports of an unresponsive child at a Kinoole Street home.
“First responders were confronted with what appeared to be a severely malnourished and unconscious young girl lying on the floor within the home,” the Hawaii Police Department said in a statement. “She was transported to the Hilo Medical Center, where she died a few hours later.”
The three defendants are being held at the Hilo cellblock in lieu of $100,000 bail each, pending their initial court appearance, scheduled for Monday.
