A celebration of life for John Martin Pahinui will be held Monday at the Hawaiian Memorial Chapel. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services from 11 a.m. to noon.
Pahinui died May 28 at his home in Waimanalo at the age of 65.
He was the youngest of 10 children born to Gabby and Emily Pahinui, and performed with his father in the Gabby Pahinui Hawaiian Band. In addition he was with the Peter Moon Band; the Young Fascination with Rodney Arias, Ben Mendez and Eddie Lilikoi; Hawaiian Expressions; with brothers Bla and Cyril as the Pahinui Brothers; in Hui Aloha with David and Dennis Kamakahi and George Kuo; and as a solo artist with both the Mountain Apple Co. and Dancing Cat labels. He also recorded with Na Palapalai, the Hawaiian Style Band and Hapa.
He closed out his career performing with Aaron Mahi and George Kuo at the Waikiki Marriot Hotel over the past 15 years.
