Blaze damages small house on Big Island
A fire that engulfed a two-story wooden building in Keaau on Hawaii island Saturday caused an estimated $155,000 in damage, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.
No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out at 6 p.m. at 11-3189 Lehua St. and was brought under control by 6:35 p.m.
The occupant told firefighters he had been working on a vehicle in front of the residence when fire started on the second floor and quickly spread. The small wood-frame building had a corrugated roof and was not connected to public utilities, according to a news release from the department.
The cause is under investigation.
