Urban Garden Tour offers peek at Manoa home plots

CINDY ELLEN RUSSELL / 2014

Some of the hens Meg Lin keeps at her Manoa Valley home, which will be a part of a planned Urban Garden Tour on July 8.

Learn about growing fresh vegetables in your backyard and how to raise chickens, honeybees and tilapia in small spaces during the Urban Garden Tour, sponsored by Malama Manoa, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 8.

Self-guided tours allow visitors to explore two Manoa gardens at their leisure and check out water catchment and aquaponics systems and composting methods. Pat Chung and Meg Lin will be available at their homes to answer questions.

Admission is free but limited to the first 100 people who sign up — and tickets always go fast. Register at bit.ly/2txzX6C.

Malama Manoa’s mission is to preserve, protect and enhance the qualities of historic Manoa Valley. In addition to the garden tours, the group hosts stream cleanups and walking tours.
