Bellows Field Beach Park and its campsites will be closed July 14-17 due to military training exercises, the city’s parks department said Wednesday.
According to the U.S. Marine Corps, the closure of the beach park portion of Bellows Air Force Station is required for training of Marines transiting through the Pacific.
The closure will result in the temporary suspension of the 50 campsites at Bellows Field Beach Park for that four-day period, city officials said.

Pipe sections are replaced to stem Kona sewage spill
A sewage spill in Kona that began Monday has been stopped, the County of Hawaii announced Wednesday.
Water activities are still prohibited in Kailua Bay until the water is deemed safe for swimming and fishing.
Warning signs will remain up until the state Department of Health determines the water is safe. Samples are being collected, and county officials expect that clearance will be given Friday.
Untreated wastewater was discharged Monday at the shoreline near Alii Drive.
Since then crews have been removing and replacing sections of corroded sewer pipe, which have stopped further releases of sewage.
County Department of Environmental Management Director William Kucharski said crews completed repairs to two sections of the same line Tuesday, and were finalizing the job Wednesday.
Crews were working on one break, found another release, and discovered a second break, he said.
The sewer lines are more than 50 years old, Kucharski said. A lot of work that needs to be done has not been done for many years, he said, adding, “We are going to address this in the Kailua-Kona area.”
