Support art museum and get special gift
A portfolio of limited-edition prints is being offered as a gift to members of the Friends of the Hawai‘i State Art Museum joining at the $500 level.
Six of HiSAM’s notable artists — Satoru Abe, John Koga, Allyn Bromley, Jodi Endicott, Carl Pao and Abigail Romanchak — are contributing a limited-edition print for the 50 available portfolios, all in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Art in Public Places Program.
The program started in 1967, making Hawaii the first state in the nation to adopt legislation setting aside 1 percent of construction costs of new state buildings for art acquisition.
Among the portfolio images is one from John Koga’s “Desert Rose” series of self-portraits created while he was entrusted with the care of a friend’s treasured plant. The plant became as precious as the friendship.
The Friends of HiSAM is committed to promoting local artists. Art lovers can also join the organization at $25, $100 and $1,000 levels. For more information, contact friendsofhisam@gmail.com.
