East-West Center exhibit focuses on ‘Tree of Life’
The “Tree of Life,” a mythological image found in different forms throughout the world, is the theme of the East-West Center Gallery’s new exhibition, continuing through Sept. 10.
On display are handcrafted objects from 20 Asian countries, including textiles, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, stone, wood and more. Pictured above, clockwise from left, is a contemporary sculpture from Chiang Mai, Thailand; an Iranian carpet; and a painting by Huang Chen Mei.
Guest curator Edric Ong of Malaysia will offer an illustrated talk on the exhibit from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the gallery, 1601 East-West Road in Manoa. Admission is free.
