Holloway beats Aldo to unify the featherweight title at UFC 212

Max Holloway stopped Jose Aldo in the third round by TKO to unify the UFC featherweight title in the main event of UFC 212 Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro.
Holloway (18-3, 14-3) extended his winning streak to 11 and joined Conor McGregor as the only fighters to beat Aldo (26-3, 8-2) in the UFC.
A hush fell over the Brazilian crowd as Aldo was floored in the third round with an overhand right. Holloway stayed on top of Aldo on the mat and worked for well over a minute before Aldo eventually turtled up and failed to defend himself, forcing referee John McCarthy to stop the fight at four minutes, 13 seconds.
Aldo stunned Holloway with a combination in the first round and landed the bigger shots in the second.
The Star-Advertiser had Aldo ahead 20-18 entering the third round.
Holloway landed 97 of 210 strikes and 91 significant strikes according to the UFC. Aldo landed 50 significant strikes with 44 coming in the first two rounds.
