Police are investigating a first-degree sexual assault case involving a tourist that occurred at Ko Olina in Leeward Oahu.
A woman from the mainland reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by a man about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Suspect charged over attack with ax
A 44-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly brandished an ax and threatened to kill a man and a woman in Mapunapuna.
Michael T. Masuda was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, criminal property damage in the first-degree, second-degree assault and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. His bail has been set at $20,000.
At about 6:40 a.m. Monday in the industrial area of Mapunapuna, police said the victims — a 36-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man — were sitting inside a parked vehicle when Masuda approached them and brandished an ax.
He allegedly threatened to kill them and shattered a vehicle window.
Police said the male victim grabbed a dangerous instrument and tried to push Masuda out of his vehicle. The men struggled and both were injured. Masuda fled before police arrived.
Later that morning, police found him at a hospital where he was being treated for cuts and arrested him.
Woman found off Kuhio Beach dies
A 72-year-old Canadian woman died Tuesday after she was found unresponsive in the water off of Kuhio Beach in Waikiki.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Guo Mei Fan of Richmond, British Columbia.
About 6:07 p.m. Tuesday, EMS said bystanders found the woman unresponsive in the water. They brought her to shore and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until firefighters and paramedics arrived. She died later that night.
Man arrested in assault on nurse
Police arrested a 34-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted a nurse at The Queen’s Medical Center.
The suspect allegedly injured the 30-year-old victim just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Police were called and the suspect was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of second-degree assault.
