Doi homers as UH closes with a win
Saving the best for last, senior outfielder Marcus Doi drove in three runs, including his first career homer, and seldom-used designated hitter Jacob Sniffin smacked a tie-breaking, two-run double to lift Hawaii to a 9-6 victory over UC Santa Barbara tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
The ‘Bows finished the regular season 28-23 — their first winning season since 2012 — and 10-14 in the Big West.
Doi’s leadoff homer came on his 380th at-bat and in his 120th game as a ’Bow. He said it was his first home run since his junior year at Mid-Pacific Institute.
Casey Ryan pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief for the victory. Dylan Thomas escaped a second-and-third jam in the ninth for his ninth save. Thomas struck out Austin Bush, who entered averaging a homer every 4.0 at bats his previous 11 games, and induced Sam Cohen to fly out to right for the final out of UH’s 2017 season.
