Nail gun incident seriously injures boy in Makakilo
A 12-year-old boy was taken in serious condition to a hospital today after he sustained a head injury from a nail gun in West Oahu, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a man accidentally shooting his son in the head with a nail gun at about 2:20 p.m., according to dispatch reports.
An Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman said paramedics treated the boy for an injury above the eye and took him to a hospital.
Firefighters also responded to the incident on Kohea Place in Makakilo after a caller reported a boy with a head injury from a three-inch nail, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Kevin Mokulehua.
Firefighters arrived to find the boy calm and on the roof of a house. They climbed a ladder to the roof, treated the boy, and brought him down to awaiting paramedics, Mokulehua said.
He said the boy’s mother told firefighters the boy was holding a board to be nailed when the nail went through the board and struck him above his eye, near the bridge of his nose.
