Three more mumps cases have been confirmed on Oahu, bringing the total number of cases to 58 so far this year, the state Department of Health confirmed today.

The new cases involve two children and one adult who are all connected to previous cases on Oahu, the Health Department said.

None of the patients required hospitalization and no schools were affected. Schools are considered a potential source for the spread of mumps.

The Health Department said it expects to see more cases across Hawaii because “the viral disease is highly contagious and circulating on Oahu.”

Symptoms often include a tender, swollen jaw, fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite.

Some patients can have “very mild” or even no symptoms, the Health Department said.
