UH falls to UC Irvine on late-inning homer

BRUCE ASATO / BASATO@STARADVERTISER.COM

Hawaii’s Josh Rojas made a diving stop on a grounder hit to third base in the fourth inning.

Freshman left fielder Adrian Damla hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift UC Irvine to a 4-3 baseball victory over Hawaii tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

The ’Bows had rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Adam Fogel’s two-run single and Alex Fitchett’s RBI base hit in the sixth.

But with a runner on first with two outs in the UCI eighth, Damla pulled a drive over the Hawaii USA Federal Credit Union board in right-center field. It was his first homer in 123 at bats this season.

The Big West series, tied at a victory apiece, concludes Monday with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
