Luxury fashion retailer Saks Fifth Avenue is holding a grand opening for its Off 5th discount store at Ala Moana Center on Thursday. The store, which is occupying a portion of the former Nordstrom store in the mall’s mauka wing, is scheduled to have a Hawaiian blessing and ceremony at 9 a.m.
Saks, which also operates stores at Waikele Center and the International Market Place, said it will provide the first 100 customers entering its newest store on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday a “sweet treat” and a chance to win a $50 gift card.
Pacific Century Fellows applicants sought
The Fund for the Pacific Century is accepting applications for its 16th class of Pacific Century Fellows.
The fund, a charitable, nonprofit organization, selects about 30 fellows to participate in the nine-month program for future leaders of Hawaii. The applicants must be in their mid-20s to early 40s and have exhibited leadership qualities.
Graduates of the program include a U.S. senator, a congressman, a governor, a mayor, bank executives, major labor and nonprofit representatives, university professors, media and public relations officials, physicians and dentists, and military officers.
The cost is $3,800 to cover expenses. Tuition assistance is available. Applications and information are available at pacificcenturyfellows.com. The deadline to apply is June 30.
HECO employees raise $518,000 for AUW
Hawaiian Electric Co. said Friday its employees and retirees raised $518,000 for Aloha United Way.
HECO employees raised money through e-pledge donations, food sales, custom logo T-shirt and polo shirt sales, movie screenings, an online silent auction, a golf tournament and a fundraiser cookbook.
On Thursday, Aloha United Way gave HECO and its parent company, Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., the Aloha United Way Spirit of Community Hookela Award for Large Business.
