Visitor resuscitated on Maui beach after he is found in water

Paramedics transported an 81-year-old California visitor to a hospital after he nearly drowned while snorkeling at Napili Bay on Maui.

Shortly after 10:15 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a call of an unresponsive male pulled from the water. The Maui Fire Department said the visitor was snorkeling with a family member when he was “found face-down and unresponsive in the water.”

“Bystanders pulled him to shore and performed CPR. The man quickly regained consciousness and began breathing on his own,” said the fire department in a news release.

Paramedics transported him to Napili Park where he was flown by a medevac helicopter to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition.
