Farrington’s Andre Ilagan, the boys top seed, and Punahou’s Katreina Corpuz, the top-seeded girl, each won a pair of matches Friday to advance to the finals of the HMSA/HHSAA State Tennis Championships at Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch & Kapalua Tennis Garden.
Ilagan defeated Mililani’s Jace Akagi-Okuma 6-2, 6-2 and No. 4 seed Andrew Yip of Kamehameha 6-2, 6-1 on Friday.
Ilagan, who was the state runner-up last year, will face Hawaii Prep’s Ryo Minakata, the No. 3 seed, today for the title.
Minakata defeated No. 8 seed Kellen Higa of Pearl City 6-1, 6-0 and second-seeded and defending state champion Phuc Huynh of ‘Iolani 7-6 (4), 3-6 (4).
Corpuz beat No. 5 seed Keilyn Kunimoto of Waiakea 6-3, 6-4 and No. 3 seed Alyssia Fossorier of Punahou 6-2, 7-5.
Corpuz and Fossorier were state doubles champions in 2015.
Corpuz will play second-seeded Taylor Lau of St. Francis for the crown.
Lau, a two-time state champion, defeated No. 7 seed Kaitlyn Ralar of Kamehameha-Maui 6-2, 6-2 and fourth-seeded Tayvia Yamagata of Konawaena 7-6 (3), 6-2.
The boys doubles final will pit top-seeded Jordan Azuma and Joey Hu of ‘Iolani against second-seeded and defending state champions Reyn Miyagawa and Seann Esaki of Mid-Pacific.
Azuma and Hu defeated third-seeded Kailuhia Lam and Jaryd Ma of Punahou 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals, while Miyagawa and Esaki topped No. 4 seeds Cody Ching and Robert Chang of ‘Iolani 6-3, 6-1.
Top-seeded Clarise Huang and Betsy Wo of Punahou and fifth-seeded Tristen Bryant-Otake and Annika Alcon of Mid-Pacific will vie for the girls doubles title.
In the semifinals, Huang and Wo beat fourth-seeded Maile Brilhante and Kianna Oda of Waiakea 5-7 , 6-2, (2) and Bryant-Otake and Alcon defeated No. 3 seeds Michelle Uyeda and April Wong of Kealakehe 6-2, 7-5.
