Junior Oceane Adam defeated Klara Thell-Lenntorp 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 in the third flight to help Hawaii Pacific’s women’s tennis team beat Academy of Art 5-3 in the NCAA Division II Women’s West Regional on Tuesday at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex.
Adam also paired up with Nicole Hoynaski to win the No. 2 doubles match, following Lara Meccico and Barbora Kijasova’s 8-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles flight.
The No. 6 Sharks (14-5 overall) edged the No. 9 Urban Knights to earn the No. 2 seed entering the NCAA Division II Championships, behind undefeated and top-ranked BYU-Hawaii. HPU will travel to Altamonte Springs, Fla., and will face No. 12 St. Mary’s (Texas) in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament on May 10 at 2 a.m.
UH men’s golf struggles in Big West
The University of Hawaii men’s golf team remains in last place after the second round of the Big West Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday in Santa Barbara, Calif. UH is 32 strokes behind leader UC Santa Barbara (561). Cal Poly remains in second place at 567, followed by Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State tied at 569.
Sophomore Cameron Kaneko leads the Rainbow Warriors with a score of 143 and is tied for 12th place. UH junior Chayutpol Kittirattanapaiboon shot a 147 and is tied for 30th place.
HPU sweeps BYUH softball
Nicole Viena recorded five hits in a PacWest doubleheader to lead the Hawaii Pacific softball team to a 9-6 win over BYU-Hawaii on Tuesday in Laie. The Sharks finished with a dozen hits in each game and also won the nightcap 5-1.
Kiana Wolfe added a double off of two hits and three RBIs in the Game 1 victory for HPU (27-19, 16-14 PacWest).
In Game 2, Sienna Santiago led the Sharks’ offense with three hits and a run. Jordan Curry earned the win on the mound and recorded three strikeouts, four walks, and gave up three hits in seven innings. The Seasiders fall to 12-29, 9-20 PacWest.
