Hawaii Hilo splits baseball doubleheader
A three-home-run day by Phillip Steering was not enough to earn the University of Hawaii Hilo baseball team two wins on Saturday, as it split the pair with Point Loma in San Diego.
In the first game, Steering hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Then in the ninth, Steering hit a game-tying grand slam as part of a six-run inning that allowed the Vulcans (8-17, 8-15 PacWest) to escape with an 8-7 win. In the game, Steering finished 2-for-3 with six RBIs.
In the second game, Steering blasted another home run, but again the Sea Lions (21-13, 13-9) were able to get the lead, and this time they never relinquished it, winning 6-3.
