Disease could cause iiwi to go extinct, study says

The iiwi, or red honeycreeper, was once found on all of the main Hawaiian Islands, but diseases have eliminated the bird from most of the state. This iiwi was photographed in an ohia tree at Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on Hawaii island.
