Hawaii football head coach and UH alum Nick Rolovich will be the featured guest speaker when the Honolulu Quarterback Club meets Monday at the Maple Garden Restaurant.
Rolovich is entering his second season at the helm. The Rainbow Warriors went 7-7 in his first season, stopping a streak of five consecutive losing seasons. Additionally, the team’s 52-35 victory over Middle Tennessee in the Hawaii Bowl was the program’s first bowl win since 2006.
Lunch costs $16 and will be served at 11:30 a.m. The program begins at noon.
Florence advances in Australia
John John Florence of Haleiwa advanced to the quarterfinals Saturday in 30-foot waves at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro in Western Australia.
The reigning world champion defeated Jacob Willcox of Australia 19.27-14.94 in the third round and won his Round 4 heat outright with a 19.16.
Sebastian Zietz of Hawaii, meanwhile, advanced to Round 5 by beating Caio Ibelli of Brazil in the third round and then finishing second in his Round 4 heat with a 13.40. Adriano de Souza of Brazil won Zietz’s heat with a 16.83.
Hawaii Pacific wins two at TOC
The Hawaii Pacific softball team earned a pair of come-from-behind victories on Saturday at the City of Turlock Tournament of Champions.
In their first game, the Sharks (17-15) rallied for two runs to tie the game in the sixth inning with host Stanislaus State (16-21), then picked up the go-ahead run in the eighth to win 3-2.
In the second game against Sonoma State (27-9), the Sharks again trailed early, but scored four runs in the sixth inning and another in the seventh to earn an 8-4 victory.
Chaminade split its two Saturday games in the tournament.
The Silverswords (6-26) defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-30), 4-1 before falling 8-5 to Chico State (24-5). Kaiser alum Rainelle Matsuoka led the ’Swords offensively with a team-high three hits in the doubleheader.
