The National Weather Service at 3:53 p.m. issued a high surf warning for north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Niihau, Kauai and Molokai, the north-facing shores of Maui and the west-facing shores of Hawaii island until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Life-threatening surf associated with a large west-northwest swell will build along north- and west-facing shores, peaking today through tonight, said weather officials.

The surf will slowly drop off through the weekend.

Surf is expected to be between 20 and 30 feet along north-facing shores and 15 to 20 feet along west-facing shores.

Weather officials are predicting high surf impacts occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents.

The public is urged to take every precaution necessary as the large surf could make entering the water very dangerous.
