A Waipahu man accused of using a large kitchen knife in a fatal stabbing appeared in District Court in Honolulu on Wednesday.
A.J. Achuo was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jeremy Kinon, 19.
Judge Russel Nagata confirmed his bail at $1 million and set his preliminary hearing for Friday.
At about 1:20 a.m. Saturday at 729 Kinau St., a witness told police, Achuo and Kinon were arguing when Achuo stabbed him once in the stomach with a kitchen knife that had an 8-inch long blade, according to a court document.
Kinon fell to the ground and Achuo allegedly fled with the knife. Police said Achuo entered a room where a witness grabbed the knife away, threw it to the side of the room, and fled. Police located Achuo — who had blood on his hands and clothes — inside the room. The knife also was recovered.
Emergency Medical Services transported Kinon to the Queen’s Medical Center in “extremely critical condition,” where he died.
