“Hawaii Five-0” is one of 18 shows picked up for early renewal, CBS announced today. The police procedural will return for an eighth season this fall after recently surpassing the 150-episode mark for the series.

The show, which stars Alex O’Loughlin, Grace Park, Daniel Dae Kim, Chi McBride, Scott Caan and Jorge Garcia, continues to do well in the Neilsen ratings. It ranked 12th in prime-time viewership numbers compiled by Nielsen for the week of March 6-12, with nearly 9.2 million viewers tuning in for the March 10 episode (“Five-0” was pre-empted last week by NCAA basketball). “Five-0” is one of two series renewed by CBS that are helmed by executive producer Peter Lenkov; another reboot, of the 1980s hit “Macgyver,” was also on the network’s list released today.

Lenkov kept it simple on Twitter with a brief “Coming soon” attached to a CBS graphic that features a hula dancer framed by the sun to create the number 8. The official “Five-0” Twitter account also confirmed the news this morning, telling fans to “Get excited!”

“Hawaii Five-0” airs at 8 p.m. Fridays on CBS. The original “Hawaii Five-O,” starring Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett, aired for 12 seasons from 1968 through 1980 on CBS.
