A series of road projects proposed for the downtown and Chinatown neighborhoods will be unveiled today by the city as part of the Community Symposium and Complete Streets Expo from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Laniakea YMCA on Richards Street.

Among the proposals to be discussed are a Bishop Street protected bike lane, an all-way pedestrian intersection at King and Bishop streets and pedestrian bulb-outs in different sections of Chinatown.

The symposium, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the city Department of Transportation Services.

The city conducted extensive community outreach last month to discuss the Downtown/Chinatown Complete Streets Implementation Project, a series of road repaving projects planned for the area over the next two to four years aimed at improving streets for all modes of transportation and incorporating the upcoming rail system’s stations.

Besides a recap of the community outreach effort, there will also be an open house with interactive displays and opportunities for public input.
