The Honolulu Police Department is investigating after an officer was charged with committing multiple counts of theft and identity theft at the Navy Exchange at Pearl Harbor.
Khanh Le, 51, a 12-year HPD veteran, was charged Saturday with second-degree theft, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, identity theft, forgery, fraudulent use of a credit card and credit card theft.
He was arrested Friday and released after posting $30,000 bail.
Le, who is assigned to the Waikiki district, had his police powers removed and will be placed on leave without pay, said HPD spokeswoman Michelle Yu. She said an administrative investigation was opened.
Le obtained more than $750 worth of property by deception from the Navy Exchange on Friday, a charging document said.
He also possessed stolen identification and a stolen credit card the same day, the document said.
Suspect in attack on 2 people turns self in
A 21-year-old woman turned herself in at the Waianae police station after she allegedly intentionally struck two people with her car in Nanakuli.
At about 3 p.m. Sunday, police said, a 28-year-old woman and 30-year-old man got into an argument with the suspect at the Pacific Shopping Mall. The argument escalated when the suspect drove her car into them.
Police said the suspect attempted to leave when she struck another vehicle, injuring a 73-year-old woman. The suspect then fled.
Emergency Medical Services said paramedics assessed the 28-year-old woman and 73-year-old woman and transported them in stable condition to a hospital.
Police said the two victims were released from the hospital.
Shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, the 21-year-old woman turned herself in at the police station, where she was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault, accidents involving substantial bodily injury and an outstanding traffic warrant.
