Irene Gonzalez recorded a hat trick as No. 8 Hawaii defeated No. 15 Long Beach State 11-6 in water polo on Sunday in Long Beach, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine (9-8, 1-1 Big West) scored six of the first seven goals in a match they never trailed, and, in the process, ended a four-match losing streak. Long Beach State fell to 7-7, 0-1.
UH goalie Ymane Hag recorded nine saves in the win.
Hawaii returns to the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center for its home opener against top-ranked USC on Friday. The ’Bows will also play Indiana on Saturday.
Swish move to 3-0 over weekend
The Hawaii Swish improved to 3-0 in their abbreviated American Basketball Association 2017 schedule with a 112-107 victory over the Orange County Novastars on Saturday night at the Blaisdell Arena.
Player/owner Geremy Robinson led the Swish with 22 points, while Mark Veazey added 20, Leon Ballard 18 and Derrick Braziel 17.
There is only one game remaining for the Swish in their trial season — against the Las Vegas Jokers on March 22 at the Blaisdell.
