The Hawaii Swish made it 2-for-2 in their American Basketball Association trial season, defeating the Tucson Buckets 97-84 on Tuesday night at the Blaisdell Arena.
Forward Leon Ballard scored a team-high 25 points in front of a crowd of about 400 people.
Unlike in the Swish’s opener on Feb. 10, the teams played using the signature red, white and blue ABA ball and the league’s “3D” rule, which awards teams an extra point on baskets scored immediately after an opponent’s turnover in the backcourt.
Tucson (2-5), which had only seven players suited up, trailed 50-43 at halftime but fell behind by 14 points after three quarters. The Swish maintained a double-digit lead in the fourth.
The Swish resume play on Monday against the Orange County Novastars.
