A small earthquake rocked the Kilauea volcano lava flow field on Saturday.
The magnitude-2.5 quake struck at 1:32 p.m. with an epicenter about 3 miles south-southeast of the town of Volcano, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The depth was 2 miles.
That places it directly below Kilauea volcano’s southeast rift zone, where there is an ongoing eruption.
Civil defense sirens no cause for alarm
The civil defense siren in Mililani Mauka went off mistakenly twice on Saturday.
The city Department of Emergency Management sent out an email after each incident, saying the siren had malfunctioned and that there was no emergency. The first message went out at 10:23 a.m., the second at 6:09 p.m.
The siren usually sounds only during emergencies or during testing once a month.
