A “serial entrepreneur” who founded Priceline.com is scheduled to give a public speech about being a successful entrepreneur at a free event March 9 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Jeff Hoffman will be the featured speaker as part of the Kipapa i ke Ala Lecture series presented by the Shidler College of Business Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship. The event at the Campus Center Ballroom starts at 5 p.m. and finishes at 6:30 p.m.

Pacific Biodiesel to farm sunflowers
Pacific Biodiesel said Monday it will farm sunflowers as a biofuel crop on 115 acres in Maui’s central valley.
Biofuel is renewable fuel made using natural vegetable oils and fats. It can replace petroleum diesel fuel or can be mixed with diesel. The company produces 5.5 million gallons of biofuel annually.

The Lili‘uokalani Trust has promoted Dawn Harflinger to vice president and chief financial officer from chief investment officer. Since joining the company in 2005, she has served as an executive fiscal officer for the trust’s children center and worked in nearly all aspects of endowment operations. Prior to joining Lili‘uokalani Trust, Harflinger worked in various financial capacities at the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.
Outrigger Hotels and Resorts has appointed Loan Montgomery-Freitas as general manager for the Outrigger-managed Wyndham Vacation Resorts Royal Garden at Waikiki. She has served as assistant resort manager since 2012 as well as front office manager at the Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber. Previously, Montgomery-Freitas was a front office manager at the OHANA Waikiki West and guest services manager at the OHANA Waikiki East by Outrigger.
