Kaneohe Bay Drive was being contraflowed this evening because of a snapped pole, Honolulu police said.

Police completely closed the road between Puohala Street and Mokulele Drive at about 2 p.m. and warned motorists to avoid the area if possible.

At about 5:20 p.m., police said the road was reopened in the Kailua-bound direction, but traffic was still being contraflowed in the area.

The broken pole occurred during a high wind advisory for parts of Oahu and Kauai, but police said it was not immediately clear what caused the pole to break.
