Director Tucci urges support for the arts, criticizes Trump
BERLIN >> American director and actor Stanley Tucci is criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump for not backing the arts and arts education.
Tucci told reporters at the Berlin International Film Festival today that “I can imagine if this administration has its way, they will eviscerate the arts.”
Tucci, who was talking after the premiere of his movie “Final Portrait” about the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti, said art should be an intrinsic part of life. He lamented, however, that many people don’t see art as an important part of education.
The director said “this (Trump) administration may not even see education as important” — apparently referring to the American president’s controversial appointment of Betty DeVos, a billionaire donor to the Republican party, as the new U.S. education chief.

Mr. Tucci is correct, of course. Mr. Trump showed his contempt for public education by nominating Mrs. DeVos – a totally and completely unqualified person – to be Secretary of Education. In her sad and disturbing confirmation hearings, she was unable to answer the most basic questions about education in the United States.
Trump is a psychotic. His administration is already a cesspool of criminal behavior and conflicts.
Asking for support for arts but criticizing a president who has only been on the job for about one month???!!! What evidence does he have that this administration will not support Arts and Education. Just because you Hollywood elite do not like him does not mean he does not support the arts!!! Idiots!!!!
The only art pieces Trump admires are the gigantic portraits of himself that he illegally buys with his foundation money. Trump’s nomination of DeVos is all anyone needs to know.
You may not have noticed, but the administration is already an international laughingstock. The White House version of The Keystone Kops. In another time, Michael Flynn would already be under indictment.
Trump is profoundly mentally ill.
A successful businesssman for 5 decades, billionaire, nominated as POTUS by the American people…. profoundly mentally illl…… RIGHT……….smh
Isn’t he planning on eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for Humanities?
