The BYU-Hawaii softball team dropped both games in a doubleheader against Western Washington at the BYUH Softball Field on Tuesday.
In the first game, the Seasiders were tied heading into the sixth inning before Western Washington’s Emily Benson and Mackenzie Hughes homered to give the Vikings a 4-2 win.
The second game went into extra innings as the two teams were tied at three after seven innings. But in the eighth, the Vikings exploded for four runs, led by a three-run home run by Benson, in a 7-3 win. The Seasiders were then retired in order to end the game.
Next up for BYUH is Simon Fraser in a doubleheader on Friday.
HPU climbs to third, seventh in latest polls
The Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team reached its highest ranking in program history, coming in at No. 3 in the latest NABC Division II poll on Tuesday.
The Sharks (21-2, 13-2 PacWest) knocked off then-No. 4 California Baptist last week, helping them jump past their conference rival in the polls. California Baptist is now ranked eighth.
In the Division II Men’s Basketball Media Poll, the Sharks climbed to seventh after being ranked 19th a week ago.
