Big Island police are renewing their appeal to the public for information on a 1997 unsolved murder involving a 27-year-old man.

The body of Sean Burgado was discovered on May 21 at his Malaai Road home in upper Waiakea Uka. An autopsy determined he died from a gunshot wound to his chest. Police said his death was ruled a homicide.

According to the Hawaii Police Department, Burgado’s employer called an acquaintance of Burgado because he was worried about him after Burgado failed to show up for work for several days.

Burgado, who worked at a health care facility, was last seen on the night of May 19 when he left the facility at the end of his shift.
