The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for most of the Hawaiian islands.

The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui as well as the north and west shores of Kauai County.

The weather service said waves on the north shores are expected to peak at 20 to 25 feet later today through Wednesday.

Waves of 13 to 18 feet on the west shores are also expected for Kauai and Niihau.

Forecasters warn the public of high surf conditions that could impact roadways, especially during high tide tonight through Wednesday.

The weather service also cautioned beachgoers of strong rip currents and ocean waters expected to sweep across beaches.
