Bank of Hawaii is partnering with Goodwill Hawaii to offer free tax preparation at four branches on Oahu.
Volunteers at the bank will help qualified taxpayers prepare their 2016 tax returns through the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
The Bank of Hawaii volunteers will be available between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to provide free basic income tax return preparation, through electronic filing, for qualified individuals and families who earned $54,000 or less in 2016 and who do not own their own home or business.
Volunteers will help taxpayers Wednesday-Friday at the main banking center, 111 S. King St.; Feb. 15 at the Waiakamilo branch, 1617 Dillingham Blvd.; Feb. 16-17 at the Waialae-Kahala branch, 4634 Kilauea Ave.; and Feb. 21-22 at the Kalihi branch, 1950 N. King St.
Each year, Bank of Hawaii provides certified tax preparers to VITA sites throughout Oahu, including Goodwill Hawaii and the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii. VITA volunteers undergo free training to become IRS-certified tax preparers. In 2016, 24 IRS-certified bank volunteers prepared 372 tax returns, resulting in $446,000 in refunds for individuals and families.
Goodwill Hawaii is accepting appointments for Bank of Hawaii’s main branch and Waiakamilo branch. Qualified taxpayers may sign up for a 45-minute appointment through Goodwill Hawaii’s website at bit.ly/2jIYxAT or call 836-0313.
