Firefighters rescue Pearl City man, avoid wild boar
Firefighters encountered a wild boar today while rescuing a man in his 70s suffering from a medical condition in Pearl City, a fire department spokesman said.
The man caught the boar in a trap he had set near a garden he was tending at the bottom of a hill behind his Aapi Place home, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Kevin Mokulehua.
While checking on the garden, the man found the boar, which was about 80 to 100 pounds, ensnared in the trap. The man began having difficulty breathing and used a cell phone to call a family member who called firefighters.
Firefighters found the pale-looking man at about 10 a.m., some 150 feet down a hill behind his home, and had difficulties getting to him because of the snared wild boar near him, Mokulehua said.
About eight firefighters carried the man up the hill on a canvas mat and turned him over to paramedics.
It was unknown what happened to the boar.

Hard to say what happened to that boar, but I did see a big luau pit at the fire station later on 🙂
It’s better to make Smoke Meat !!!
HPD got some good grinds.
Betcha that pig was ready to charge.
I hope the man was able to recover and checked out for what sounds like a cardio pulmonary episode. Likewise I hope the pig was set free and on his way. 🙂
Ditto.
ditto ditto. Pig snaring karma. Leave them alone.
Are you kidding me? The wild pig population is exploding and now they are being pushed into populated areas. Their destruction of the native habitat is very well documented. It’s gotten pretty bad when they risk coming out on the roadways with their piglets in tow. Their numbers need to be culled badly.
Yep, I used to live right next to Kalihi Stream behind the dojo and the wild pigs would come down the hill across the stream and root in our garden several times a week. Wreaked havoc in our ‘awapuhi.
Lesson learned – Don’t set a trap for something if you can’t handle if after it’s trapped.
