A man has been charged Monday with assaulting a Waikiki hotel employee with a sword.
Brian W. Schacher has been charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault. He was being held in custody Wednesday in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Shortly after 12 p.m. Saturday, a woman at the Ewa Hotel at 2355 Cartwright Road reported to police that a man in the lobby was swinging a 2-foot “ninja sword” and arguing with front desk employees, according to a court document.
Clad in a white robe and black hat, and carrying a black backpack, Schacher allegedly struck a female employee three times with the sword. Police said she suffered injuries to the lower part of her body.
Police located Schacher on the fifth floor of the hotel and arrested him.
New Jersey man ID’d as crash victim
A 65-year-old man killed last week in a two-car crash at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was identified as Paul Hernandez of New Jersey.
Hernandez was traveling north on Highway 11 near the intersection with the Namakanipaio Campground access road in a white Hyundai Elantra sedan Saturday afternoon. A witness said he attempted to make a U-turn when he was struck by a blue Toyota Scion driven by a 33-year-old man traveling south on the highway, according to a Hawaii Volcanoes National Park news release.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. The 33-year-old was taken to Hilo Medical Center.
Rangers are seeking witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call park dispatch at 985-6170.
Police seek tips in Iwilei stabbing death
CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are seeking the public’s help in finding the person or people responsible for the murder of a 32-year-old man in Iwilei on Saturday.
Police said Nicolo Lorenzo was found at the intersection of Iwilei Road and North Nimitz Highway at about 9:10 p.m., unconscious with multiple stab wounds. Lorenzo was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died.
