A popular Japanese reality show on Netflix will begin streaming new episodes this week that were filmed in Hawaii.
“Terrace House” follows a formula made famous in the United States by “The Real World,” sticking six strangers in a house filled with cameras and recording the action that unfolds.
The show debuted on Japan’s Fuji Television Network in 2012, later signing a deal with Netflix to also stream the Japanese-language series online. “Terrace House: Aloha State,” based at a Waialae Iki home, is the show’s third full season on Netflix and stars aspiring model Lauren Tsai, aspiring actor Yuya Shibusawa, shop clerk Avian Ku, furniture maker Eric De Mendonca, ukulele artist Yusuke Aizawa and blogger Naomi Lorraine Frank.
Along with the housemates, “Terrace House” features a panel of studio commentators that include Japanese comedians Yoshimi Tokui, Azusa Babazono and Ryouta Yamasato. The 24-episode third season will be available to stream on Netflix in 190 countries, including the United States, on Jan. 24. English subtitles are provided.
