Lifeguards made 21 rescues Thursday on Oahu’s North and West shores.
Surf heights were up to 20-foot faces at Ehukai Beach, where most of the 12 North Shore rescues were made, Ocean Safety spokeswoman Shayne Enright said.
Lifeguards made nine rescues on the west side, where Makaha Beach saw 6- to 10-foot surf.
The National Weather Service Thursday issued a high-surf warning for west-facing shores of Hawaii island until 6 a.m. today.
A new west-northwesterly swell is expected to fill in after Thursday’s west-northwesterly swell gradually goes down.
On Oahu, north-facing shores will drop to 15 to 20 feet today from 18 to 22 feet Thursday night, while west shores fall to 10 to 12 feet today from 12 to 15 feet Thursday night.
