Faulty siren shatters silence of Halawa night
A siren malfunctioned at Camp Smith in Halawa in the middle of the night, waking many residents.
The malfunction occurred at approximately midnight. The loud sound of the siren at the Marine Corps Base continued for about an hour, according to John Cummings, spokesman for the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management.
Honolulu firefighters responded and shut it off. The cause of the malfunction is unknown at this time.
Cummings said they reported the malfunction to military officials.
