Yellow Cab Pizza Co. to debut in Iwilei

After many months of displaying a “coming soon” banner, Yellow Cab Pizza Co. will stage its grand opening a week from today, after an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Philippines-based chain, established in 2001, is owned by Max’s Group Inc., and is a sister-restaurant to Max’s of Manila which also is located in the Costco Iwilei complex at 801 Dillingham Blvd. at Alakawa Street.

The new pizza restaurant is located in spaces formerly occupied by Quiznos and Wallpaper & Finer Things and will seat 90 guests. Delivery also will be offered via Bite Squad, rather than the Yellow Cab-branded scooters that deliver meals in the Philippines.

Yellow Cab Pizza serves New York-style pizzas, pasta dishes and appetizers, and will offer coffee and espresso drinks as well as beer and wine. The interior includes big-screen televisions for customer viewing.

Teriyaki Boy, another Max’s Group sister-concept that operates in the Philippines, has been registered with the state, though details about its location and opening have not been announced.

Following the grand opening, Yellow Cab Pizza will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

There’s a Brick Oven Pizza that opened nearby too (in the complex where Yohei is).

I wonder if balut pizza is popular here?

I e been to Max’s a few times due to invitations to parties held there and found the food to be just okay. Their famous fried chicken has always been dry and something you can accomplish at home simply marinating a game hen and then deep frying. Their prices are pretty high for what you get. Example, a handful of spring rolls, cut in half go for about ten dollars. You can go across the same parking lot into Costco and buy a large bagful of those for about the same price. Not holding up for their sister restaurant as I suspect the same price scheme will be in place.

Been to the Max’s and found their food to be too costly for what you get. Their famous fried chicken has always been too dry. Ten bucks for a few half spring rolls is a bit much. You can buy a big bag of those at Costco for less.

I reviewed some comments about Yellow Cab Pizza on the web — I hope they succeed in Hawaii but if the comments I read are anywhere near real they will be out of business within a year. Customer Service issues mainly. If your customer service sucks it doesn’t matter how good your food is.

We need another pizza place like we need a hole in the head. In general this kind of food is not healthy given the processed cheese and meats used to make pizzas
in the US. Pizzas in Italy are much healthier as they often do not contain processed meats and are usually just tomato sauce and cheese and herbs.

Use names like Tombstone, DiGiorno, Red Baron, etc., and it should do well.
