Read only certain portions of the voyage. Modern technology insure safer method for navigating the oceans. Yet we cannot forget our past? It’s wonderful to note that there are still individuals willing to follow their ancestors ways and prove their worth .

There are so many opportunities associated with this voyage. It takes great leadership to orchestrate a lofty project like this. Many thanks to all of those who have found ways to support this amazing adventure exploring world conservation and honoring indigenous cultures.

The thing I remember the most is not the actual voyage itself. Anyone recall when Hokulea first left on this journey and it was covered by KHON? The reporter in May 2014 was Kirk Matthews. He interviewed crew members and did a story, then at the very end, he said how happy he was to do this farewell story and then choked up and said he hoped he would be there when Hokulea returned. Of course, we all know that during the journey, Matthews passed away from cancer. I think he knew his situation in 2014 already and was just hoping to be here in 2017. Sadly, it was not meant to be.

Interesting – Polynesians were crossing vast stretches of open ocean while Europeans were hugging the coasts of Europe and Africa to get to Asia. IIRC – the Chinese also sent expeditions to explore Africa before the Europeans. YMMV

    Kirk Matthews – RIP.
